This week we also started our unit on fiction vs. Non-fiction. I read them two different types of stories about bears. They had to chart the differences between these books, one being fiction and one being non-fiction. They seem to have a pretty good understanding of this topic.
Social Studies:
This week a parent from 1a asked our class to join in learning about South Korean culture. All of the children got the chance to dress up in traditional South Korean dress and they got to sample special cookies and rice drink. Additionally, They got to play a traditional game. The kids seemed to really love every minute of it!
Also, in social studies this week we focused largely on creating our posters. I have been really impressed by the creativity of the children. I am also impressed with how many of them can now independently work. The posters are coming out nicely.
Math:
This week in math the children took a test on length and irregular forms of measurement. It seemed to be very easy for them. We will prepare for a more comprehensive test next week which will incorporate all of the units we have gone over so far.
Science:
In science we are continuing to focus on Earth`s resources. We are going to largely focus on the 3 R`s, reduce, reuse and recycle. We will focus on this unit for a long period of time.
Have a great weekend!
