Spelling - Our focus this week was words with the long i sound. We looked at words with -i-e and -igh in them to make the long i sound. Students have been doing well with their ten sentences. Please encourage your child to use describing words to make their writing more detailed.
Reading - We reviewed our reading strategy friends and read through some of the books Mischa's mum brought in last week. Checking Raz Kids, it seems that most students are completing weekly reading home work. All the support you are giving your child with reading is showing as the class makes progress with reading.
Writing - we practiced writing a paragraph again and wrote about our field trip to Shibuya Post Office.
In Social Studies we talked about Land and Water. Children did active reading and then used the vocabulary to make a collage of different kinds of water and land such as lakes, rivers and oceans and mountain and hill with construction paper.
In Math this week we looked at addition strategies to add. On Monday we used tens frames to move counters between two frames to physically see how we can make a ten and then add that ten to the remaining counters to get the answer.
Students also practiced this addition strategy using number bonds. This kind of addition strategy was sent home for homework as well to help children grasp it. If you notice your child is struggling with basic addition or finding the parts that make a whole please review Rocket Math flashcards and support your child. Next week we will continue with addition strategies and subtraction strategies.
