The Hall00ween party today was a great success. Thanks very much to all the parents who helped to make the day so much fun for the children. It was a busy day for all. We started with our Spelling Quiz in the morning where everyone aced the quiz!! Then we moved on to work on our "pumpkin books" which incorparated a mini science and math lesson. After all that talk about pumpkins it was time to taste some and also to carve our Jack-o-Lantern. While the children were at Art, Viola Swamp replaced Miss Larissa and gave G1a a scare. Then all the third floor classes enjoyed a Halloween story and games before lunch. After lunch we watched a movie. It was a big build up to Trick or Treating. Unfortunately the rain didn't allow us to go outside as planned but the PTA organised everything inside and everyone had a great time. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!! On Thursday Grade 1 had their first big field trip. We went to Miraikan, The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. We had snack on arrival and then settled down to watch the Asimo robot presentation before breaking into four smaller groups to set out on a quest to find information that could help us answer a question such as "what kind of robot would you want to live with?" or "What would you do if you could live to be 100?" Our last port of call was "Curiosity Field" where children enjoyed hands on activities that let children experience the scientific way of thinking. Everyone enjoyed our field trip and started thinking like scientists!

In Reading Workshop we have been working on reading with a partner and setting goals for our reading. Students are learning that with the help of a partner they can become better readers by taking turns reading, echoing their partners, writing book reviews together and setting goals for reading more books Independent reading - reading to build stamina and to set personal goals to read more books. This week we also talked about setting academic, behavioural and social goals to become better learners. We will be sharing these goals at Monday's PTC's. Working together to complete tasks and encouraging our friends. Some friends went to join and watch Sumo on Tuesday.
