Mathematics
9-3=
9 - 8,7,6
We also used a number line to help us keep track of where we were with the numbers. We also tackled the trickier 'counting on' strategy which entails counting forward from the lowest part of the number (until you get to the whole number):
9-3 =
3 + 4,5,6,7,8,9 (6 jumps)
Lastly we looked at writing subtraction stories and really focussed on using as many strategies as we could to solve the problems. I have been stressing with the students that they should use the strategy they feel most comfortable with when solving problems as long as they are not using their fingers!
Writing.
Reading.
Eagle Eye: Look at the pictures. We learned that we could read the beginning of the words and the look at the pictures to get a clue on what it could be.
Lips the fish and Stretchy Snake (they kind of work together): We get our mouths ready to say the beginning of the words and then stretching out the sounds we can see in the word.
We also looked and reviewed some sight words because English rarely follows it's own phonic rules! We will continue or reading skills after the break to learn more advanced strategies.
