______
Using the place value technique we can separate the ones and tens (the 'ninja chop') as such:
tens ones
4 | 0
1 | 7
_________
Now we cannot subtract 7 from 0 as this will bring us to negative numbers, so we will take a ten from our tens column and make the 0 a 10.
3 | (1)0 (We still have 4 tens in the number as 3 +1 = 4!)
1 | 7
___________
and from there we can solve the problem by 10 - 7 and 30 - 10 equalling 23! This has caused some headaches for the students so far so any extra practice at home would really help them out!
Writing.
1. Use a dictionary.
2. Ask a friend.
3. Use your sounds.
4. Find a suitable non-fiction book and look in the index/glossary.
Our grammar focus for this week was editing and we reviewed the 3 rules of sentences to help keep us focussed for our writing (as some capital letter and end mark mistakes have started creeping back into our work!)
