Reading
Story Elements - Readers Meet the Characters in Our Books
This week our class learned that readers get to know characters by identifying what the characters do and talking about their actions, likes, and dislikes. Students also thought about how characters can change from the beginning to the end of a story.
Writing
Descriptive Writing
Students followed the writing process this week to write their draft. After completing their draft, they worked on revising and editing their descriptive paragraphs. Next week, as they prepare to publish, students will practice copying all the correct sentences from their draft onto their published writing paper.
Science Changing Sound - Pitch This week we reviewed what we learned about volume and investigated changing pitch. Students observed the pitch of a one-string guitar and a xylophone. We talked about the relationship between length and pitch. Science Vocabulary Volume: how loud or soft a sound is Pitch: how high or low a sound is |
Math
Numbers to 20
This week we completed our shape unit. Our new math chapter focuses on numbers to 20. The class practiced reading and writing numbers to 20 and thought of ways to group counters together so they are easy to count. After sharing their ideas, we used ten frames to help us arranged counters into groups of 10 and worked on counting on from 10 to find the total (Ex. 10....11, 12, 13, 14).
