Please check your child's folder for their Spring Break homework. This activity will also be assigned on Seesaw.
Directions: Your homework is to add one cherry blossom to the tree for every 10 minutes you read during Spring Break. You will need to add at least five cherry blossoms to your tree (eg. 5 days → 10 minutes each day), but you can choose to read more! How many cherry blossoms can you add?

Dear Parents,
We would like to share some information regarding our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs):
- PTCs will take place after school during the week of April 5 - April 9.
- PTCs will take place online via Zoom. You will need to sign into your child’s teacher’s Zoom account at the time of the conference. The information needed is listed on the sign-up sheet linked below.
- K3 to Grade 6 - Conferences include at least one parent, child, and teacher(s). Your child’s presence is essential as s/he will be talking about his/her learning during the conference. A portion of the conference will be reserved for you to speak directly with your child’s teacher without your child present.
- On the signup sheet, please find your child’s classroom teacher’s tab and add your name to the desired time slot. If you would like to sign up for a conference with a specialist teacher (optional), there are also tabs at the end for music, art, and Japanese teachers.
- If you have more than one child at UST, we encourage you to leave 20 minutes in between the end of one conference and the start of the next conference. This is to ensure that you will have the full amount of time available to meet with the teacher.

Creative Writing: Made-up Stories
This week students presented their first published story to the class, then followed the writing process to plan and write a 2nd made-up story with new characters and a new problem.
Math
Addition to 40 (with and without regrouping)
During math we focused on addition using numbers to 40. Students are practicing how to add with and without regrouping. This week the class was introduced to regrouping.
REGROUP: When we regroup, we change 10 tens for 1 ten.
Addition without regrouping
First, add the ones.
Then, add the tens.
Addition with regrouping
First, add the ones.
Regroup! (10 ones --> 1 ten) *Move the ten into the tens place!
Then, add the tens.
Students are also taking time to show that they regrouped by writing a 1 (1 ten) above the tens place before adding the tens.
Air
This week we used the two-syringe system again to talk about our observations and answered the question, "What happens when air is pushed into a smaller space?"
Our next science question is, "How can water be used to show that air takes up space?" We will learn that air takes up space and the pressure from compressed air can move things, including water. During the first investigation, we used a vial and a napkin. We put the napkin in the vial and pushed it under the water. The students observed that the napkin was still dry afterwards. When we return from the holiday break, our class will continue this investigation and make a bottle system to help us answer the science question.
