Wednesday, December 15th
The students have been working hard this term to prepare for the winter concert. All of the teachers at UST are so proud of them. They did a fantastic job practicing during the rehearsal and performing at the concert hall on Wednesday. Thank you to all the UST families for taking time to attend the concert. It was wonderful to see everyone celebrating the holiday season together!
Friday, December 17th
A big thank you to G1A's class parents for helping organize the holiday gifts for our class. The students were very excited about the books they received. I hope they enjoyed sharing their book with you at home.
Also, thank you to UST's PTA for helping with holiday decorations around the school and making the last day of Term 1 extra special with a pizza lunch.
Holiday Stockings
During writing, students learned about the five parts of a friendly letter: heading, greeting, body, closing, and signature. They decorated their own holiday stocking and wrote kind notes to each other to spread holiday cheer!
One of our holiday activities on Friday was to create a snowman by following the Snowman Key below. Students drew each part of their snowman by thinking about their answers to the questions on the key.
Getting Super Smart about Nonfiction Topics
Our last reading lesson before the break was about keywords in nonfiction texts. The class learned that it's important for us to understand the words connected to the topics we study because it makes us more of an “expert” about those topics. Students continued reading nonfiction books and worked on finding and thinking about the keywords.
- Read the word from the book.
- Think about why the word is important .
- Make up your own sentence about that word.
- Write down the word and it's definition.
Subtraction within 20
To end the term we focused on subtraction within 20. We reviewed how to subtract by counting back and started practicing how to subtract by grouping into a 10 and ones. We will continue our math unit all about addition and subtraction within 20 when we return to school.
