Science:
This week in science the students focused on plants. They learned more about what plants need to live. We looked at different types of seeds, leaves and plants in general. Together we went to the nursery and the students chose a plant for our classroom; a sakura tree. We compared this tree to the fern plant in 1A.
They also started observing the plants that they planted last week; some have started to grow. The students are keeping their own personal plant journals.
Social studies:
We started to look at the differences and similarities between maps and globe. The students also compared water features of the earth to land features. They did a sort to compare and contrast the differing characteristics.
ELA:
This week we started a unit on expository writing. The students each completed their own `how to book`. Each book explains different steps on how to complete a certain task that the children know how to do. For example, one child wrote a book about all the steps required to make popcorn.
This week we also focused on end marks; full-stops, exclamation points and question marks.
In reading we also focused on reading together in a group. In groups they compared and contrasted different non-fiction books. Additionally, they have started using post-it notes to write down questions that they have about certain books. They post their questions on our wonder wall.
Have a great weekend!
