Welcome back families!!
I hope you all had a restful break!
We have a new student this week and his name is Tyler. The students are very excited for him to be here! I am sure you have heard about this by now!
We also said goodbye to Noah this term as he went to second grade.
Math:
We are moving on to a new unit on place value. This week we focused on learning the tens and ones place. We had groups compete to see who could place different numbers on the place value chart first. We will continue this unit for sometime.
Science:
In science this week we continued our unit on animals. The students made beautiful watercolor paintings on the animal the chose to research over the break. They then made a written component with their favorite facts about that animal. The results were beautiful.
Social Studies:
In social studies we continued to focus on jobs that people do. The students wrote a piece about a job they want to do when they grow up. Many of them had difficulty deciding on one job. Finally, they made a decision and made a wonderful formal piece.
ELA:
This week was largely cross-curricular in that the students writing was focused on elements from both science and social studies.
We also started a new unit on characters and understanding the traits of different characters. We are also focusing on adjectives as well. We looked at the character David, from the book No David, We then tried to assign David different adjectives.
Have a great week!
