The students were very busy in ELA this week. They are beginning to learn about dictionary skills. This week each of the students made their own portable word wall/ personal dictionary. The dictionary contains sight words and words that the children wanted to know. They will continue to add to it when they come across unfamiliar word.
This week the students also received their own personal diaries. Every morning when the students come in they will write about their feelings or thoughts in the diary. They seem to really love it so far.
In reading we focused on understanding how quotations marks tell us that the character had said something. The students each looked a different characters and interpreted stories through quotes.
Science:
This week we introduced a unit on plants to the students. The students had a show and tell that was all about plants. Additionally, we focused on what plants needed to live and grow.
Math:
In math this week we began to introduce adding and subtracting with two digit numbers. We focused on regrouping to make groups of 10.
The students used visuals and manipulatives to understand this concept.
