This week we started our unit on creative writing. The students were introduced to the concept of story mapping. They mapped out and created their own creative stories. When they finished them they shared them out loud with each other. Be sure to look at them when you visit our classroom tonight for the art and science show.
This week we also compared synonyms and antonyms. As a class we sorted words and discussed the differences. The students also created "opposite stories" using antonyms.
Science:
This week in science the students finished their cars. Each group first presented their finished products by explaining their design process. Then the students raced their cars. Table two had the fastest car. We then discussed the conclusions as to why that car might have been the fastest and why maybe some of the others were slower. They considered many different variables. After their conclusions were drawn they presented their findings to the science fair judges.
Please see the cars and the findings in our classroom tonight.
Social Studies:
This week we continued our unit on comparing past and present. Thank you so much for helping the children with their timeline projects at home. They all turned out beautifully. The students really enjoyed sharing them with everyone and everyone loved listening to the presentations. These are also hanging in our classroom for you to look at tonight.
Math:
In math we are reviewing addition and subtraction facts up 120. Additionally, we are revisiting place value, comparing and skip counting.
I look forward to seeing most of you this evening!
Have a great day!
