Math:
This week in math the students completed a comprehensive exam over the last few chapters we have studied. I have graded these test and will share the results with you in the reports that I am currently writing and at the PTC.
We moved on to a new unit in math about weight. The children enjoyed playing with the scale this week. They made different predictions about how much objects weighed and made many different comparisons between objects.
Social Studies:
This week in social studies the students worked largely on finishing their posters. The posters came out beautifully and all of them were full of very interesting and insightful facts. Today the students finally had the opportunity to present their poster.. They all did an amazing job and I will send home a copy of the rubric today.
Science:
This week in science we decided to combine a few of the units together. We are focusing on bodies of water, different types of water and the 4`s. This week the students did an experiment involving different types of water. They are looking to observe the affects of a plant in different types of water: fresh water, salt water and no water. They created predictions and other observations this week. Next week they will observe and record any changes they might see.
Thank you all for the milk cartons. We will be recycling them into flower planters next week.
English:
This week in ELA we had our big slam poetry meet. Our winner of our classroom slam poetry contest was Amalia. She had an original poem about Love. I was very impressed how all of the children encouraged and supported Amalia today.
This week we also largely focused on identifying the difference between fiction and non-fictions text. The children sorts different terms related to the two genres. They seem to have a good grasp on this concept but we will continue to focus on it.
