At the beginning of the week we had Cambodia day. This was to promote awareness of our sister school as well as to promote empathy for those with less resources than us.
The children all participated by sitting in the dark for the majority of the day at a crowded desk. Additionally, they ate a basic lunch of white rice and few vegetables to simulate what lunch time is like at our sister school.
This week we also had our science fair kick-off. We had visitors come in and teach the children how to make slime. The students really seemed to enjoy making it and loved playing with it even more. There will be more details about the science fair next week.
This week we also had spirit week. The students seemed to enjoy having twin day, team color day and crazy hair day. They all seem to be very excited about Sports Day tomorrow.
Math:
This week in math we introduced our unit on how to tell time. The students enjoyed playing games related to telling time on a clock. We will learn more about this next week.
ELA:
We introduced persuasive writing. We focused on forming opinions and explaining why we have these opinions. We will continue this unit in the coming weeks.
We also reflected on our experience on Cambodia day through writing.
This week we also went on a field trip to The Edo Open Air Museum. This was to open our unit on comparing the past and the present. At the museum the students had the opportunity to see buildings that represented architecture from the past.
Have a great weekend and I hope to see all you tomorrow.
