Assessments
This week I started assessing each student's independent reading level using flight checks on Raz-Kids and F&P assessments. I will continue these assessment next week as we prepare for report cards to be sent home.
Expository Writing (How-To Paragraph)
Students completed their first draft of their how-to expository paragraph. I met with students one-on-one to revise and edit their writing piece during a writing conference. All students will publish and present their finished work to the class next week.
Picture Graphs, Tally Charts, Bar Graphs
This week students continued to practice collecting data and representing data using a picture graph. Our class was also introduced to tally charts and bar graphs. We will complete Math Chapter 11 Picture Graphs and Bar Graphs next week.
Earth's Resources - Recycle, Reduce, Reuse
This week we reviewed how we can take care of Earth's natural resources by recycling, reducing, and reusing. Students participated in an activity that helped them practice how to reduce resources by using trash to make something new. Students followed the design process to plan, build, improve, redesign, and communicate.
Tradition's We Share - Family Traditions and Celebrations
This week we read about children who live in different parts of the world (Mali, Germany, Mexico, South Korea, etc.). Students practiced the skill compare and contrast, talking about how they are similar to and different from these children.
Also, students started a Social Studies project by picking a celebration their family partakes in at home and writing interview questions to ask family members. Next week they will use their interview questions/answers to start planning and writing a paragraph. The purpose of the paragraph is to share information about a celebration with an audience. Students will also create a poster with pictures and drawings about their celebration to present to the class.
Have a good weekend!
