Plants
We have started a new unit in Science called Grass and Grain Seeds. Our first task was to plan our own "little lawns." Each student planted ryegrass seeds and alfalfa seeds in a small cup. We will observe how our plants grow and change over the next few weeks. Students will draw pictures and write about their observations.
Big Ideas:
- Seeds are alive and grow into new plants.
- Seeds need water to begin growth.
- Plants need water, air, nutrients, and space to grow.

Addition and Subtraction within 100
This week we finished our math chapter about numbers to 120. Students worked on comparing numbers, ordering numbers, and number patterns.
Our class started a new math chapter all about addition and subtraction within 100. We reviewed how to add and subtract within 40, then practiced addition with and without regrouping.
Reading Across Genres to Learn About a Topic
This week we started our last reading unit of the school year. Students thought about topics that interest them, then looked for nonfiction and fiction books in our classroom library to help them learn more about their topics.
As readers, students practiced how to learn even more about a topic by reading a variety of different genres of books. While reading fiction books, students had to think about which information is real.
Report Writing
During writing this week students worked on revising, editing, and publishing their animal reports.
