Charity Clothing Sale
The annual Charity Clothing Sale is coming up this month on Saturday, 23rd November and we are starting ticket sales TOMORROW!
On the night, we will be selling coveted pieces from UST family, the Kobayashi’s boutique with slight imperfections, at super low prices. The event will be held in Ms Rhonda’s beautiful home (see address and link for map above), starting at 5:00pm and ending… pretty late usually!
Women’s clothing, jackets, winter coats, and accessories will start at 300 yen per piece. For extra discounts you can purchase advance tickets at 100 yen per ticket (any color). Spend a minimum of ¥1,000 and receive 12 tickets (shop for 1,200 yen)! You can also purchase 25 tickets for ¥2,000, and 65 tickets for ¥5,000! Cash on the night is also a possibility, but the ticket sales will allow those that are not able to attend a chance to donate to the cause, and those shopping, to take advantage of the discount!
How to get your tickets:
1) Put the exact amount you wish to spend in an envelope with your child’s name, grade, event and the amount written on it.
2) Please ask your child to give it to your child’s homeroom teacher or hand it to your child’s homeroom teacher in person.
3) Your purchased tickets will be waiting for you at the venue (Ms. Ronda’s house).
All proceeds are going to the One Tree Foundation, a charity selected by UST’s student council.
We will provide some nibbles and soft drinks, but please bring your own bottle if you wish to drink alcohol.
Printable flyer attached! If you would like to attend, we’d appreciate an email to let us know so we can gage numbers. We hope to see you there!
Kind regards

Story Elements - Readers Meet the Characters in Our Books
Our new Reading unit focuses on story elements and learning more about characters. Our class discussed that like a puzzle, stories have lots of parts/pieces and for it to be complete, we need all of the pieces!

Next week students will start to learn more about the characters in our books.
Math
Shapes
Our focus this week was 2D shapes. Students practiced using shapes (triangles, rhombuses, trapezoids, hexagons) to complete shape outlines and worked on tangram activities.
Students also cut out different shapes and folded them to make two new shapes that are alike and two new shapes that are different. After discussing which shapes showed equal and not equal parts, our class was introduced to halves.
Halves
Students divided circles into halves to make their own half and half pizzas. They also colored different shapes two colors and practiced saying, "One half of the _____ is _____!" (Ex. One half of the triangle is blue!).
Next week we will focus on fourths and solid shapes.
Math Vocabulary
Science
Changing Sound - Volume, Pitch
During Science we explored changing sound and focused on changing volume. During these lessons, students investigated a one-string guitar and a xylophone. We reviewed that sounds come from objects that are vibrating and that vibrating objects always make sound. Students learned that volume is how loud or soft a sound is and sounds can differ in volume.
We also investigated changing pitch. Students observed the pitch of a one-string guitar and xylophone to change the pitch of a sound. We talked about the relationship between length and pitch.
Science Vocabulary
Volume: how loud or soft a sound is
Pitch: how high or low a sound is
Have a wonderful weekend!
