Math
Numbers to 20
*Counting and comparing numbers to 20
*Place value (tens, ones)
*Number Patterns
This week we focused on place value and comparing numbers. We practiced using place value charts to help us organize tens and ones, then compared the amounts in the different sets. Students also worked on ordered numbers: greatest to least, least to greatest. We ended the week reviewing number patterns.
Reading
Story Elements - Readers Meet the Characters in Our Books
To help us get to know characters more, we looked for patterns in characters' actions and predicted what they would do next in the story. Students also practiced being reading detectives. Detectives use clues to solve mysteries, so as readers, we look for information and clues to learn more about the characters in our books. If a student says something about a character, I will say, "Prove it! What's your evidence?" They are practicing how to look in the book and find a page that tells or shows what the character does and says to support their idea.
Science
How does sound travel from the source to the receiver?
This week students used spoon-gongs to continue investigating how sound travels. As a class, we drew a model showing how the sound travels from the source to the receiver.
First the sound starts at the spoon.
The vibrations move to the string and then to the cup.
The sound is received by the ear.
Have a great weekend!
