It is starting to get REALLY cold, so please make sure your child is wearing cold weather clothes (long sleeve shirts, trousers and a nice warm jumper). Even though it is a bit chilly, we will still outside to the park to play and have lunch so we have to be ready for the cold!
Mathematics.
Draw or write how you would compare 1 ten 3 ones and 13 ones.
This is a trick question first as they are the same number. A lot of students made the correct observation but could not explain or show how they knew it was the same. After the assessment, we went through the question as a class and I stressed for the students to show what you know. So for this question, the working out could look like:
1 ten and 3 ones = 13
13 ones = 13
Therefore 1 ten and 3 ones = 13 ones.
In the coming week I will be going through more questions like these with the students to help them prepare for showing their working out. I will also be looking at multi-step questions. Who said no work was done in the last week of school (not in G1B at least!)
Writing.
colourful, sizzling, wavy, flat, strange, squishy, soggy
We have also been using the books the students have been bringing in to get even more adjectives! We had a number of new words come from Dragons love tacos! which Avery brought in!
Reading.
- What does the character do?
- What does the character say?
- How does the character feel?
- If you were the character, how would you feel?
- If you were the character, what would you do?
- What happened to the character in the story?
- How does the character's feelings change?
- What does the character learn in the story?
The last question in particular was very tricky! We then reviewed hwo all the story elements come to together to construct a story and we made story puzzles!
