Mathematics.
Panna gives Momo 4 doggie treats every day from Monday to Friday. How many treats did she give Momo in all?
For this we needed to make 5 groups (for the 5 days) of 4. The students used connecting cubes to make an array to represent this:

Now we could just count up all the objects (a.k.a Ren's way) or we could just do 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4. We could also see that we could also to 4 groups of 5 (5 + 5 + 5 + 5). The students then solved the addition problem with the help of our doubles facts!

Reading.
During this I have also started reading observations with the students to see which areas we will need to work on in the last couple of weeks before our final reading assessments, I know a lot of students have their eyes on the chapter books in the higher levels!
Science.
On Tuesday, we looked at my favourite lesson in the unit: Clouds! The students learned about the 3 types of cloud (cirrus, cumulus and stratus) as well as the 'nimbus' versions. I would highly recommend asking the students about the clouds in the sky on the weekend, they should be able to not only tell you their type, but also their altitude as well!
On Thursday we finished our sky observations by talking about the moon and it's phases. This will tie into a special holiday homework we will set for the next two weeks as students will chart the moon's progress across our skies and note down its' different phases.
