'Body bubble' lesson.
Mathematics.
We had our final assessment on Friday and there were a lot of tricky problems that the students found difficult. One was a number pattern question where the students were given the numbers 15, 13 and 11 and told that there were 2 more numbers to go in the pattern. They then needed to choose which numbers would NOT go into the pattern. 7 and 9, 17 and 19,10 and 8 or 12 and 14. The correct answer was 10 and 8 as it would not make a pattern jumping in either ones or twos. The trick answer was 12 and 14 because although it does not fit into the pattern of subtracting 2's, it could work as the numbers could go between the numbers given!
Some students could not complete the test on time and we will be spending a little bit of Monday to finish it off before moving to our next unit on addition and subtraction to 20!
Writing.
On Wednesday and Thursday we started to look at the differences between the stories we wrote last unit and non fiction texts. We came up with the conclusion that the small moments we wrote were all about something we did at one time and non fiction texts are trying to teach the readers about something. We also discussed about how liking something may not make you an expert. Students then brainstormed 5 topics they believed that they were experts in and then had to share 5 teaching statements (I can teach you about _______) about the topic to a partner. If they could not come up with 5 things about the topic they could teach someone, they were not an expert and had to think of another!
