We also had our poetry recital raffle (from our poetry recitals last week) and the two winners were Osuke and Maya. Well done to both of them.
Unfortunately our field trip was postponed due to rain but we have been able to reschedule it to next Tuesday (the 4th of February.)
Mathematics.
15 + 4 =
Split the 15 into a 10 and 5. Then add the ones together.
10 + (5+4) =
Then add the 10
10 + 9 = 19
The next strategy covered was the use of doubles facts to solve problems. The students have been working on remembering doubles so they can quickly recall the answers (4 + 4, 7+ 7 etc.) The strategy we worked on also looked at 'doubles +1' where the students would identify a double then add the remainder. For example:
6 + 7 =
We know that 7 is also 6 + 1 so we can make a double.
6 + 6 +1 =
Next we solve the double and add one more.
12 + 1 = 13
Next week we will be looking at subtraction strategies with an aim of having the final assessment the week after.
