FRIDAY - Haikus
The students will need to remember the poem without reading it from a book or printout! Each time the students recite a different poem, they will receive a raffle ticket that will be drawn on the poetry slam day!
Mathematics.
1. Count up to reach the number. For example the numbers 15 and 18. Starting from 15 and counting 16, 17, 18 (three jumps on a number line.) This method is using addition.
2. Taking the smaller number away from the larger one. So 18 - 15 = 3. I have been encouraging this method more than counting on as in the future, students will be asked to find the difference between two numbers (effectively means subtraction.)
We also revisited number patterns (finding the missing number in the series) with counting off number (3,5,7,9 or 2,5,8,11 etc.) On Monday we will be having our final assessment before moving onto more advanced addition and subtraction strategies!
