In Math we looked at non standard measurement and children had fun measuring things around the classroom with units such as craft sticks, connecting cubes, magnets links and dominoes. This week we also started a unit on Poetry. Children were introduced to mind mapping to make list poems, rhyming poems and acrostic poems. Children worked in groups to write simple poems in the lead up to a school wide Poetry Slam. After everyone writes and learns a poem next week we will have everyone present their poem to the class and vote on the poem to send to the Slam. In Science we continued to observed and learn ways to classify rocks and soil with two hands on observations. Children seem quite interested in these two earth's resources and generated a lot of questions that could lead further investigations. Sonal, a professional poet did a poetry workshop in the art room. Everyone was excited to join in reciting a poem with her and then went to work on making a mind map of a feeling they had experienced. Sonal asked the children to write about what makes them have that feeling and to associate colours, food, animals and games with the feeling. After this everyone presented their ideas to their friends. Show and Tell this week prompted a games session in the afternoon after everyone had presented on their favourite game and how to play it. We ended the week with a fun after noon playing and celebrating Ayana's 7th Birthday in Niko Niko park. Ayana's mum brought cupcakes to the park for both grades and we all sang happy birthday to Ayana. Congratulations to Ayana and thanks to Idelia. Have a great weekend, Larissa
