Hands on place value activities. Presenting research project to the class. Taking turns being producers, sellers and consumers. | We got off to a good start this first week back. We have talked about how we will work hard this short 2nd term to fit in lots of learning and fun. In ELA students wrote about their winter break. In grammar we reviewed using adjectives to make writing more colourful and detailed. Students reflected on themselves and chose adjectives that they would use to describe themselves. We also started looking at characters in the stories we are reading and what we can learn about the characters feelings, thoughts and actions from the beginning of the book to the end and how they may change. In math we started a new chapter looking at numbers to 20. We had fun learning place value with tens and ones on place value charts. Working with place value helps with addition and subtraction with numbers to 20 which we will be looking at in the next chapter. In science we continued talking about animals and listened to mini presentations of the winter break animal research projects. We will use these projects for a writing task next week. We all learned new facts about various different animals from each other. We also learned about how to group animals according to the type of animal, the way the animal moves, size, and body coverings. In Social studies we learned that goods are made or grown and that services are things people do for others. Students thought about what they may like to do as a service for their families. They came up with ideas like giving massages, taking out the trash, cooking meals and taking care of pets. We also did some role playing so students could fully understand the role of consumers, producers and sellers. |
