Our Mystery Reader this week was Alexis' mother, Miwa. She read two Japanese folk tales in English. The first story was The Magical Hood and the second was The Monkey and the Crab. Thank you for sharing these two stories with us.
Spelling - Our weekly words focused on the long and short sound of oo (a little tricky at times to identify). Everyone got all their spelling words right this week!
Writing - Students had another go at persuasive writing this week with a piece they wrote to convince K3 that G1 is a fun place to be. Each child wrote about a subject or part of G1 which will be made into a book for K3 in the lead up to their graduation and transition.
Reading - Students worked in reading groups to gather, compare and contrast information about plants they found in various books. Students also used post it notes to record there ideas, questions and predictions while reading.
In Math this week we worked with US coins to count out money and add together sets of coins. This reviewed the skill of adding two digit numbers.
We moved on with light investigations this week. Students learnt what causes shadows and explored how different materials; opaque, translucent and transparent blocked light completely or let some or all light travel through them. On Friday students had fun completing a shadow challenge in the park with a partner. Students explored how the position of the sun caused shadows and set each other challenges.
Students presented their timeline projects to the class on Friday. It was very interesting to listen to students introduce important life events such as becoming a big brother or sister, moving house, loosing a tooth and other milestones. Alexis presented on exactly the day she was born seven years ago and William presented the day before his birthday.
