Spelling - We focused on words beginning sound clusters br,dr,tr,fr and for Friday's Spelling Quiz everyone got all the words right.
Reading- we have been working on making connections between the books we read. We have looked at text to self connections where students can relate things in the book to personal experiences, text to text connections where one book reminded students of another book they had read and text to world connections where students related what happened in a book to what they know or learnt about in the real world.
Writing- In writing we continued to look at writing sentences. We broke sentences down into the naming part and telling part . Next week we will move onto looking at different types of sentences. Students also enjoyed some journal writing this week, drafting and editing a short piece about their Fall Break.
This week we completed a benchmark assessment for Chapters 1 - 4. After the test children received feedback on how they did. We went over things that children found difficult. Next week we will start sending home small "exit slips" in an envelope at the back of your child's homework notebook. Please check these and see what we are doing and where your child needs extra support. Children will also be bringing home their Rocket Math tests on Monday. Everyone has now coloured a section or two on the rocket and are keen to do more. Please continue to practice the addition facts at home.
We started a new chapter, Shapes and Patterns onThursday were we reviewed the plane shapes, rectangle, square, triangle and circle. We talked about the properties of these shapes and what they reminded us of. To finish off our Math Lesson on Friday we played a game of Shape Bingo in table groups to work on turn taking and working together for a common goal.
Group A did their Show and Tell this Friday and presented about what they did during Fall/Autumn Break. I have sent an email home about future Show and Tell so please take a moment to go through this with your child before their next Show and Tell.
