Our writing topic this week was inspired by our visit to Miraikan and our new Science Unit Technology All Around Us. During a feedback discussion about what children were most excited about at the museum we found that most children liked Asimo the robot. This got them thinking about their future with robots and what they might be like. During science class when we talked about different kind of engineers it was robotics engineers that caught the students' attention. Everyone was excited to start on the writing topic thinking about what their robot would look like and how it would help them. Over two days we worked through the writing process to brainstorm, plan, draft, revise, edit, publish and illustrate a piece about robots the children had created. Each child presented their ideas to the class.
One of the things we are working on this term is working together as a team or playing learning games in small groups. During park time some children have been involved in group games or building things together. During Math time this week children have played subtraction games in their table groups and rotated through 4 games, remembering to follow the rules of the game and to leave the game ready for the new group to start on. In Math we also finished our chapter on subtraction. We reviewed the chapter , did a chapter test and a four chapter assessment. We found out together an area we need to work on and further review and thus that we can learn from our mistakes.
