I would also like to introduce the school's monthly maths competition for grade 1! Every month Ms. D puts grade level maths questions on the cork board outside the office. Students who wish to participate need to write the answers to the questions on a piece of paper, bring in 50 yen (to be donated to a charity chosen by student council) and give it to me! Students who enter will be put into a draw to win a prize at the end of the month. This month's questions are:
Mathematics.
Writing.
Reading.
Social Studies.
1. We share.
2. We talk.
3. We listen.
4. We take turns.
5. We play fairly.
6. We are good sports.
We also had a look at a story about a monster trying to learn about respect so you may here some of the students refer to people as being, 'Very Important Monsters.' I'll let them fill you in on the details. We did start our next unit on, 'Why is it important to learn from each other?' and we looked at how we are alike and different at the same time.
