There is some homework that is set for our little vacation though! The students will need to write, practice and present a little show and tell when we get back! I certainly hope that everyone has an eventful (but relaxing) vacation to talk about. Just in case the homework pixies eat the show and tell presentation sheets in the students' bags, here is all the information and forms they will need.

Mathematics.
We also started our work with shapes this week and looked at 2D shapes primarily. We classified shapes by their sides, corners and whether or not they had parallel lines (and how many of them!) We shapes we covered were:
Square
Rectangle
Trapezium (Trapezoid)
Rhombus
Pentagon
Hexagon
Octagon
Decagon (briefly......)
On Friday we started to look at cutting our shapes into haves and quarters and took our first tentative steps into the bane of every elementary schoolchild: Fractions. We will continue this when we resume the term.
Writing.
Reading.
LIPS THE FISH: We get our mouths ready to sound the word by looking at the beginning sound (used in conjunction with Eagle Eye or Stretchy Snake.)
EAGLE EYE: We look at the picture and the beginning sound of the word to give us a hint.
STRETCHY SNAKE: We use our sounds and stretch out the word (decoding.)
CHUNKY MONKEY!: We look for small words we know inside the large word.
Feel free to use the names of these strategies when you listen to the students read, they should know what to do for each one!
Science!
What makes sound?
How is sound made?
What sounds are hard/easy to hear?
Rather than me tell you the answers, I would like you to ask the students for the answers! Hopefully they can describe the 3 experiments we did this week. In case they have a sudden case of amnesia, here are the names of investigations:
1. Cups and rubber bands/tongue depressors.
2. Table fiddle.
3. Drop chambers.
Hopefully that should jog their memories.....
