I should also apologise that none of the poems have been uploaded to SeeSaw this week. Ms. Allison and myself are trying to find time to get the recordings done but we are struggling to find time when both classes are free! We will keep trying though!
SPECIAL HOMEWORK FOR NEXT WEEK!
Mathematics.
3 + 12 = 17 - 5
We recalled that = means 'the same as' which meant we needed to figure out what each number for the sums were. I encouraged the students to show their working out for each sum.
3 + 12 = 17 - 5
(15) = (12)
When we solved them and wrote the answers underneath, it was easy to see that this sentence was false as 15 is not the same as 12!
We also started our unit on numbers to 40 and focussed on how to count groups of ones quickly. We looked at reading and counting the tens first before counting the ones. We will be continuing this work next week and I'm hoping the students can help me counting out some of the loose change that has been donated to student council!
Writing.
Reading.
- Ask questions (open ended 'wh' questions.)
- Ask, 'What's happening?'
- Look for patterns in the text. These can include:
characters
words
pictures
actions
- Look for turning points in the text.
For this week we concentrated on asking questions and finding patterns. We also managed to have a quick peek at a Grade 4 reading group as Ms. Ray was downstairs leading one when we were washing our hands!
