As you may have heard, the school will be holding a spelling bee this year! You should have received a sign up sheet in your email. If your child wishes to participate in the spelling bee, sign up before Friday the 14th. Your child will then have 3 weeks to practice 100 words that they MAY be tested on. After 3 weeks, I will hold qualifiers to find out which 2 students will represent G1B at the spelling bee! Should you have any questions about the spelling bee, please feel free to contact me.

Reading.
After Golden week, we started to look at 'fact' and 'opinion.' The students learned the importance of giving evidence to support facts. As we only had one lesson, the students looked at finding the specific information and stating the pages they found it on. We will be expanding on this next week when we start researching in our reading groups.
Science/Social Studies.
Calm - Very little or no wind.
Gentle Breeze - The wind makes small objects move slightly.
Moderate Breeze - The wind makes smaller branches on trees move. Leaves blow along the streets.
Strong breeze - The wind makes large tree branches move and push larger objects.
Students then tested their wind socks outside at the park to observe how they behaved!
We also began our new Social Studies unit on 'My family is special.' We only had one lesson but the students brainstormed some words that they thought of when they think of their families. Much harder to do than you think!
