Science fair!
Spelling Bee!
Mathematics.
We also looked at measuring weight using informal units. For this we used our connecting cubes to see how heavy objects in our classroom were. One area that the students found difficult was when we had to find out how much heavier/lighter an object was. This required them to find the difference between the two weights using subtraction. We practiced this again on Friday and I'm hoping everyone is ready for our assessment on Monday!
Writing.
We also spent some time practicing our reading comprehension. We looked at author's point of view questions this week. Students were given a passage and had to identify what facts were stated in it. They then had to look at the facts and find out what opinion the author had to quote them. Very tricky!
Reading.
Lions, Butterflies, Owls, Sharks, Penguins and Lizards.
We looked at how we were going to record what we learned when reading and how we could look up new words in the dictionary. The students were encouraged to write down the information as soon as they came across it and then continue on reading the book (rather than stopping and finding out what the meaning of words are.) This will help them keep the information fresh in their heads when they are reading on.
Social Studies.
For our families activities, we looked at 'chores' and 'activities for fun.' We looked at the different chores that the students had to do around the house and different things their families like to do together for fun. I am hoping to record all of the students' projects next week and put them up on SeeSaw so you can see (I will try my best!)
